Have you ever felt this, I wonder? Thought about it for longer than you dared; to try and realise the point? That is, to say, you've listened to a song, over and over, and always wondered what it was about, what it meant. What emotions and experiences shaped the penning of those lyrics? What was going on in that person's life to inspire the words to flow in the way they did? Perhaps, and this is just a rather obvious hunch, in order to 'get' it, you need a similar moment or experience. A common reference point between listener and lyricist, perhaps, or a sharing of biographies, even at a false distance, just for a moment. Anyway, the thing is, I think I get this song now. I mean really get it. And for that I can only say thank-you, Philip. x

Be still my Swedish-esque heart - I was so incredibly disappointed when the volcanic eruptions kept them from coming to my side of the pond. 'Explosions' was and continues to be a favorite. Our nexus of music makes me happy C.
ReplyDeleteUgh - volcanic eruptions are such a major pain in the arse, right? They seem to just get in the way of all the best Scandanavian indie-pop gigs travelling across the world. Bah. ;) But, aye, the musicial connections are grand! :)
ReplyDeleteI really love Puzzles.
ReplyDeleteA song that always leaves me wondering 'wtf is going on here?' is Goodbye Lennon by the Vanilla Swingers.
I think, perhaps, if you were to throw a copy of 'Double Fantasy' off the top of a very tall building you might be able to relate to the song a wee bit more, Tricia? Just a hunch. ;)
