And then I used his feet to kick him in the head.

Relaxed ambient tunes and swearword poetry comedy, please. It's the only way of dealing with 'this little thing called life' right now, as the artist formerly known as Prince might say. But at least I managed to avoid arrest and/or getting hit by a Polis van yesterday. Protests continue and we have a revised deadline of June 17th to respond to the, ahem, 'consultation proposals' that will effectively murder four successful Degree programmes and sack at least 25 + members of academic staff (yes, myself included). The energy and commitment of my colleagues and the students is staggering, astounding really. But for this weekend, as part of the revolutionary struggle, I will be dancing to indiepop, drinking gin and smiling as much as I fucking possibly can. Well, for at least 20 minutes I will.

  1. Remember Colin, it's not you that's being made redundant, it's the post. I over heard that bollocks being uttered last week.

Although I was spared the chop last week after 7 days reflection I don't think that keeping my job was that great as the workload and travelling is going to increase at least two fold. We are currently in the consultation period as well however half of the restructuring team is on holiday which speaks volumes.

I hope that you manage to stop the cuts, you at least seem to have support and are willing to fight. My work collegues on the other hand have accepted it as a done deal and I have yet to get a straight answer from anyone.

  3. Yes Drew, straight answers to simple questions are very hard to find at times like this. We are also encountering this. We won't accept anything until the P45 comes through the Internal Mail. Luckily, these threats have united us like never before. I guess this is what happens when you point a gun to the head of people who are critically engaged with the social world around them. I hope your own sitaution works out as you want it to. I'm not sure if/how I can exactly, but if I can assist with your own battles please let me know.

It will be loud, yes Tricia, and the twee handclaps and sweet xylophone sounds will ring out across the streets of Glasgow. I suspect some yummy cupcakes will be coming out to play as well. Chin Chin!

  4. You've written some of the nicest posts I've read over the last week or so. There's something good coming out of the melancholy!

    M'on the protests. x

  5. Awwwww! Thanks Niki. That's very kind of you. I think - dare I admit this - it is excitement mixed with a little melancholy. I do like a good protest/battle, you see. It raises spirits and focusses the mind. Anyway, I hope things are going well down your way! :) x

  6. Troubles, troubles balanced with gorgeous sounds and escapist beverages - my kind of MO. Those Grubel and Telekaster tracks are both lovely.

  7. I suppose, without troubles, where would we be? A little bit too comfortable? Do troubles keep us on our toes? All rhetorical, I know. Just saying. :)
