You have to start somewhere

-
'I would like to be an architect' said the sweaty young Czech student in shining, multi-coloured sports lycra as he exited the local Aldi shop to his pal who, rather bemused, just turned to him and said 'But then why are you doing an economics degree?'. 'Well', said our erstwhile hero, 'You have to start somewhere'. And I think that's exactly it: you have to start somewhere. Even if you don't want to be an architect, in fact.

  1. If you wish it.... one of my students tore up his UCAS form this year and started again - "I want to do Drama". "But.... you don't do Drama or Performing Arts now, you haven't got a GCSE or equivalent and you haven't been in any productions. You can apply for whatever you like but I think they'll all turn you down". "I Don't Care. I'd rather apply for what I want and get turned down than for what I don't want and get in". He applied. He's got in - well, he's got straightforward conditional offers that he's comfortably on course to meet. I'm worried about how he's going to find the course when he gets there, but you have to start somewhere.

  2. I suspect he may just save the performing arts after graduation. That wee story cheered my jaded soul no end. Thanks Adam. :)
